Performance Achievement is a forward-looking, shared experience process that's designed to assist staff to develop within their role and add value to the work of their team(s) and services. It also encourages greater levels of engagement between staff and managers in a partnership approach: an area in which successive staff surveys have highlighted the need to improve.

Performance Achievement is the process used by leading organisations internationally to translate strategic plans into action. It enables an organisation to:

Set goals.
Monitor outcomes.
Provide feedback throughout the performance review cycle.
Develop staff capacity, competencies and capabilities.

The basic principle of Performance Achievement is that each member of staff has the opportunity to meet with their manager to discuss their learning and development objectives, to meet organisational goals. A national HSE KPI has been developed that requires a demonstration that 70% of the staff population have completed this process annually, with which we are mandated to adhere to. The policy proposes at least one formal meeting in an annual cycle and two meetings are desired and recommended. It is important that staff are continually engaged with, recognising their capabilities and contributions all of which will assist in to deliver a high level of quality care.
