Socioeconomic Variation in Tobacco Smoking Among the Adult Population in Ireland
The RCSI with the HSE Tobacco Free Ireland Programme have published a Socioeconomic Variation in Tobacco Smoking Among the Adult Population in Ireland paper, showcasing the continued, protracted and persistent health inequities related to higher smoking prevalence among populations in Ireland who are more deprived.
While there have been reductions in smoking prevalence across higher income groups, those on lower incomes and those who are more deprived have higher smoking prevalence (daily and occasional) and this is the single biggest factor precipitating and impacting on their health inequalities with higher and earlier morbidity and mortality as a result.
