The effects of vaping on children and adolescent health: a review of systematic reviews

An abstract of a review undertaken by the Institute of Public Health and published in The Lancet brings critical insights into the growing health concerns surrounding vaping among children and adolescents. Commissioned by the Department of Health in Northern Ireland, the study responds to alarming trends in youth vaping, which doubled from 3% in 2016 to 6% in 2022, and aims to inform policy and regulation.

The study employed a rapid review of systematic reviews published in the last decade, focusing on the health effects of vaping in individuals under 20 years old. Researchers analysed evidence on outcomes such as tobacco cigarette initiation, respiratory health, mental health, and substance use. The full review is available here.
