Stop Smoking Support for Staff at University Hospital Limerick



Supports Available

Free 12 week programme of behavioural support and Nicotine Replacement therapy (NRT), with follow-up at 6 months and 1 year. Support includes: Discussing smoking habits & triggers Addressing barriers and benefits of change Measuring your carbon monoxide levels Making a personalised plan to quit smoking Advice on use of Nicotine Replacement Therapy.

In-person Stop Smoking clinic is available at UHL every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon from 2-4pm in the Health and Wellbeing Centre. Phone Niamh on 087 9377623 to book an appointment.

The service is flexible & appointment times can be adapted to your working schedule outside of clinic times if needed.

Behavioural support is also available to quit vaping.



Niotine Replacement Therapy (NRT)

NRT is a safe medication that gives you a low level of nicotine to help reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms and makes quitting easier. It does not contain other poisonous chemicals present in tobacco smoke, for example, tar and carbon monoxide. There are many different types of NRT available at UHL: Patches Gum Inhalers Lozenges Mouth sprays.

Staff can be provided with 2 types of NRT for 12 weeks, to include a nicotine patch and a fast acting NRT product (such as gum, lozenge, inhaler and mouth spray) NRT can be posted every 2 weeks to support your quit, alongside regular review with the stop smoking specialist to guide weaning over the 12 week period.
