End of Life Champions

The end of life care team want to recognise those true End of Life Champions – the compassionate individuals who make a difference when it matters most to a patient and their family.



The End of Life care team are looking to identify the unsung heros of the hospital, the hygiene, portering and catering staff.

Making Every Contact Count (MECC) Staff Training

The MECC training programme equips staff for brief, positive conversations with patients about healthy behaviours to prevent chronic disease.

 



Step 1   HSEland e-learning; consists of six 30 minute modules covering a variety of topics on lifestyle behavioural changes including physical activity, smoking and alcohol.

Step 2   In-person workshop to enhance intervention skills and gain more confidence to start and develop the conversation. See timetable below to book your place before it’s too late!




 



2023 Health Sciences Academy Report

The 2023 Health Sciences Academy annual report is available to view.



This report shows the collaborative work that is being done to strengthen all aspects of  education, training, research and innovation in the hospital group, community, public health and education partners, as well as in the population at large.

The report covers the key highlights of 2023 including the Power of Collaboration conference and also provides an update on each of the six work streams within the Health Sciences Academy.


 



Cycle To Work Scheme 2024

The Scheme is now open to new applications, and will remain open until 30th September 2024*.



The scheme limit has been updated:

€1,250 for normal bike

€1,500 for e-bike

You can re-apply 4 years after your last application.

Parliamentary Affairs Training :HSELand

Answering parliamentary questions (PQs) and representations (Reps) requires input from various departments. This service is managed by the Communications Department. The group are legally obliged to respond to PQs and Reps within strict timeframes.   

Answering PQs and Reps comprehensively and within timeframes helps us build good relationships elected representatives. We encourage staff involved in answering PQs/Reps to take the below course.



Parliamentary Affairs : A Working Guide for Staff is an eLearning module on HSELand which:

•Introduces staff to the different aspects of parliamentary work.
•Provides guidance for responding to queries.
•Takes 30 minutes to complete with a short exam at the end.
 

The course can be accessed on HSELand by searching Parliamentary Affairs.


 



Children First Mandatory Training

Children First is a national policy document which promotes the safety and well-being of all children.

The policy is intended to assist people in identifying and reporting child protection and welfare concerns and outlines how to deal effectively with concerns. It highlights the roles and responsibilities of everyone in protecting children and promoting their welfare. Children First training is mandatory for all HSE staff and must be repeated every 3 years.

The training is in the form of an e-learning module on HSELanD. This training is easy to follow and takes 90 mins approx to complete.

If you are working on a leaflet, booklet or presentation and want make it literacy friendly, join us at our next health literacy clinic.

We will give you some specific guidance for your project as well as some useful tips from a plain English perspective. You can find our resources such as leaflet templates and the HSE Communicating Clearly Guidelines and more on ihub.

Clinical Skills Training  for International Medical Graduate NCHDs

The practical clinical skills induction training took place on the 9 July is based on a  recommendation from the Department of Health’s National Taskforce on the NCHD Workforce Recommendations Report 2023.

This specific skills training featured Urinary Catheterization, IVL, Phlebotomy, Blood Culture, ABG, Haemovigilance & ECG. It is important that the right training is in place to enable international trained NCHDs to successfully integrate as quickly as possible, both professionally and personally.

Nenagh Hospital NCHD Residence Room and Library Refurbishment

Refurbishment works have been completed on the Doctors' Residence & Library in Nenagh Hospital. Funding was provided by the National Doctors Training and Planning (NDTP)Training Lead Fund. A collaborative effort between the NDTP team, Nenagh Maintenance Department, Nenagh Executive Team and the Director of Scheduled Care has brought this project to completion.



The Residence Room and Library provides a suitable working environment where NCHDs can undergo online training, research and education which will lead to enhanced patient care.
