Trauma Ward UHL and Croom Orthopaedic Hospital
I am writing to complement all the HSE staff that I have had contact with following a fall and hip fracture I suffered outside my home in Shannon.
The Ambulance service was very prompt and efficient. On arrival in UHL I was seen very quickly and the extent of my injury was clearly explained to me. As I was on a blood thinner I had to wait for a few days for surgery, during this time I was very well looked after.
The first part of my after surgery care was in the Trauma ward of UHL. Even though this was an extremely busy ward the care of all patients was great. After a few days I was transferred to Croom. There I received excellent Physiotherapy .
The quality follow up home care that I received at home was so thorough. Every one of the HSE staff were very caring and professional. I vey much would like to pass on my thanks to HSE staff that I have come in contact with.
As a result of the HSE's excellent care I am now back fully mobile and living a full life .

Despite the horror stories we hear about UHL. I attended my app at the clinic. Was seen by a nurse and two doctors, all in the space of 1 hour and twenty mins. I cannot speak highly enough of the care and attention I received. Thank you to those involved.

I attended the above clinic on the 6th of April 2023 and my experience was wonderful. The clinic is under Dr. Rahman and the monitoring of my Diabetes 2 has been excellent. So excellent that my blood sugars are reducing dramatically.
Thank you Dr. Rahman and your wonderful team é. g. Your Doctors and Nurses especially Nurse Nuala and Nurse Fiona + the Receptionists for their friendliness, respect and great humour.

I am sure the vast majority of the time these inboxes only receive complaints from people but I would like to commend the entire team in Ward 2B - Ophthalmology at UHL for treating my wife's Detached Retina between Sunday 30 April and Monday 1st May.
Naturally, a detached retina happening out of the blue is a terrifying and traumatic experience for anyone but the soothing calmness, friendliness and unbelievable professionalism of Dr David Doherty put both my wife and myself far more at ease than we realistically should have been in those moments, I understand he recently returned from New Zealand to work at UHL and can only say you don't realize how fortunate you are to have someone as brilliant as him in your team, I have personally spent a considerable amount of time in hospitals in a few countries due to a medical condition and complications from an awful accident, I am well versed in how patients are treated, that is often best for the medical personal to rather keep emotions and any form of human attachment at bay in order to only focus on their task at hand and I do understand that approach, but I can't adequately put into words just how incredible Dr Doherty was with putting my wife at ease when there was the possiblity of losing her sight, it takes an exceptional human being to be able to do what he does and how he does it, please could you pass on my thanks to him, i will never feel like I have thanked him enough - he is an unbelievable asset to the HSE.
Then the consulting surgeon, Dr Kevin Kennelly, he is simply an artist at what he does, my wife has experienced a detached retina in her other eye when she was a young teenager and she was actually aware of what to expect in terms of pain, healing process and the long, uncomfortable road to full recovery and she is so blown away by how much less pain she is in, how fast her recovery process seems to be coming along and how confident she feels this time round. A special thanks needs to be given to Dr Kennelly for stepping in when it was discovered that the consulting surgeon Dr Hurley was unavailable to assist, i believe Dr Kennelly even had family friends visiting over this bank holiday weekend and he sacrificed his personal time that he didn't actually have to, to save my wifes ability to see - this level of commitment to their vocation is truly a power of superhero level brilliance.
And lastly, the entire Ward 2B Nursing Team, i am mortified that i cannot list each and every one of them, but the caring attitudes and jovial nature of these women was such small spark of hope and happiness during this whole ordeal, my wife was not treated and just another piece of meat on yet another day of work, she was treated as a human being that was terrified, in a huge amount of pain and needed professional help, they made such an effort to ensure my wife was comfortable, warm, fed, emotionally okay and made to feel as safe as could be, they truly are heroes in my eyes.
I am writing this to you in the hopes that this team of your staff get the recognition they deserve, they all, each and every one of them, should be commended for their exceptionalism that is simply just another day at the job for them, but to normal non-heroic people like me, they are most definitely the best that humanity can offer.
