Promoting Nursing and Midwifery Showcase
The next generation of Nurses and Midwives were treated to a very informative morning on the 19th of April 2024 in the CERC Building, UHL.
This was an inaugural event aimed to give secondary students a snapshot of the role of the Nurse and Midwife and gain an insight into their roles as healthcare professionals.
133 Secondary School Students from the Mid-West Region and beyond attended the showcase and got the opportunity to chat with nurses and midwives from clinical settings and various specialities.
Nurses and Midwives set up stands and spoke to the students about their careers and roles in various healthcare settings.
Students voted for the “Best Stand” award, won by the Intensive Care Unit, Congratulations!
Excellent feedback was received on the day with 100% indicating it helped them to understand the role of the Nurse or Midwife.
Pain Management Centre Croom
Congratulations to the staff of the Pain Management Centre, Croom Orthopaedic Hospital on winning an Irish Healthcare Centre Award in the category of Healthcare Initiative for a General Hospital. Since opening in December 2021, the Pain Management Centre has continually evolved to meet the needs of the service users. The introduction of leaner processes and new services has improved efficiency and patient care. With wait times significantly reduced, the department have been introducing multidisciplinary self-management based approaches with the objective of reducing long term reliance on healthcare services. Well done to the Dedicated Cataract Clinic Service at Nenagh Ophthalmology who were shortlisted under Outpatient Initiative of the year, another fantastic achievement.
Bernie Carpenter Award 2024
Yvonne Moloney, Registered Advanced Nurse Practitioner RANP Diabetes Acute care, at UHL, pictured below, has been awarded the 2024 Bernie Carpenter award.
The Bernie Carpenter Award was established in memory. of Bernie Carpenter, RANP at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, Dublin who sadly died in March 2021, and the award recognises Bernie’s lifelong commitment to nursing and in particular nurse education. The award is granted to one IAANMP member every year. Yvonne plans to use the bursary for continuous professional development, to further develop her knowledge and skills in relation to Diabetes Technology e.g. Continuous Glucose Monitoring CGM, Continuous Subcutaneous Insulin Infusion CSII pump therapy and Hybrid Closed Loop HCL. Yvonne will present at the IAANMP annual conference in Portlaoise, 11th November 2024.
