QQ1 Level 5 Maternity Model

Seven HCAs recently undertook a QQ1 level 5 maternity Module.  This was facilitated by the Centre for Nursing & Midwifery Education HSE West and supported by Clinical Skills facilitators and midwifery staff from UMHL. The maternity module included a range of theoretical and practical components of midwifery care. The HCAs developed their skills in caring for new-born’s skin, bathing and infant feeding. Theoretical topics such as the philosophy of maternity care in Ireland, perinatal mental health support, bereavement support structures and future development in maternity care was discussed. The learners gained enhanced knowledge on their role in an emergency midwifery situation.
