Rainbow Ward UHL

We attended the paediatrics rainbow department for a week with our sick 5 1/2 month daughter. The care we got was exceptional. The staff were wonderful - kind, caring, knowledgeable, always willing to answer questions. We cannot thank them enough for the care they gave us and our little girl.

St Patricks Ward Croom

I met Mary at the Nurses Station when my dad was going in for knee surgery and she was so compassionate and gave so much reassurance. It might have only been a few minutes out of her day but the time she took to console me when I got upset really meant so much.

Ward 8C UHL

I myself was a very sick patient in Ward 8C recently. From the moment I was admitted to 8C the care I received was outstanding. The whole team in this ward are extremely supportive and dedicated. No matter what is going on they always make time to listen. On a couple of occasions I was struggling with my health and quiet upset. But the staff were just so helpful. Every member of staff just helped me get out of that hole I was in. Nurse Brona and Nurse Julie I cannot thank them enough for their time and support. They sat and listened and reassured me. Made me feel so much better. That goes for the CNM Joan and the HCA Catherine also. Just so caring and very good to me. The people working in the kitchen anything I looked for they did their best to get it for me and the cleaner Nina was so polite and did a fantastic job having my room clean. I am a young woman and my family are so extremely grateful to the help and support I received while in 8C

Emergency Department UHL

My 10 year old son came home at 7.15pm from training with a clearly injured arm. Nenagh LIU had had to close early due to staff shortages, St. John's LIU was closed since 7pm and we weren't going to make Ennis LIU before it closed. My son was clearly in a fair amount of pain and I was unsure whether or not it was broken. I phoned UHL and asked for the ED and was put through. I unfortunately can't remember the name of the staff member I spoke with although he did introduce himself. I don't know what his role was. I explained to him that I was unsure of whether or not I needed to access a service soon or where best to access. He listened, explained my options, gave me all the time I needed, and, only when I asked, he gave his opinion as to what he would do. We subsequently attended the Laya clinic, had the arm x-rayed and were told it was only badly bruised, given a bandage and advice and were out within an hour, much relieved.

Thanks to the conversation with the clinician in UHL, we didn't delay anyone else in UHL needlessly last night and didn't add to the staff's workload there. We also didn't have to worry any more. The clinician was clear, professional and very helpful. I appreciate that the public services would like to treat everyone who needs help and that not everyone is fortunate enough to have private health insurance and that it is not a solution for everything. In the circumstances, however, the outcome last night was so positive for my son and all of us. Even if the arm had been broken, the clarity re the situation and what was needed then would have been great.

Many thanks to the clinician in UHL for their professionalism and kindness, in what I know are challenging circumstances.

Kind regards, Niamh
