Making Mealtimes Matter

Catering staff in Ennis Hospital received ‘Making Mealtimes Matter’ training. This training highlights the important role of Catering staff in a patients recovery in hospital.

The mealtime is a very important time in a patient’s journey in hospital and many factors affect appetite and dietary intake.

Catering staff in Ennis Hospital show compassion in meal requests and strive to ensure a patient receives meals that best suits their needs.

Launch of INEWS

The official launch of the Vital Signs Automation System, INEWS, took place in Ward 8D on Thursday, 27 June.

UHL, as a model 4 hospital, was at the forefront of this new initiative, with funding provided to trial the system before rolling it out across all wards and new builds in the future.



Staff from Ward 8D along with Declan McNamara Project Sponsor and Chief Director of Nursing and Midwifery, Noreen Spillane, Chief Operations Officer,  Yvonne Young, INEWS Project Lead and Group Sepsis ADON, Niamh O’Leary, Digital INEWS Project Manager, Office of the National Clinical Advisor and Group Lead, Acute Hospitals Operations Division , Ronnie McDermott, Clinical Engineering, Medical Device Equipment Lead, Dublin Northeast, Mary Bedding, Project Lead Guidance Development, National Deteriorating Patient Improvement Programme (DPIP).


 



ICPOP (Integrated Care Programme for Older Persons)

ICPOPs are Consultant Led Specialist Teams delivering services to frail older persons, or those  at risk of falling, to support them to live well at home.

They are part of the Enhanced Community Care network and work closely with Community Healthcare Network staff and colleagues in ULHG  to provide older people with specialist services to meet their needs.

Bug Hotel Croom Orthopaedic Hospital

European Sustainable Energy Week was held in June. To mark the event Croom Orthopaedic Hospital staff embraced all things sustainability and created a bug hotel.

The bug hotel is located just by the entrance to the hospital grounds.

Bug hotels are a fantastic way to provide shelter and breeding grounds for all kinds of native insects. These tiny creatures play a vital role in our ecosystem, by pollinating plants and controlling pests.

Insulin Safety Week Nenagh 

Nenagh Hospital Insulin Safety Week ran from 1-7 July. The awareness campaign attracted a great number of attendees. Below is a collage of pictures from the week.

The main aim of this campaign was to ensure that every team member is equipped with the knowledge and skills to manage insulin effectively, reducing risks and improving patient outcomes. 




 



Over 50 Years Service

Congratulations to James McNamara who retired on Friday 7 June 2024 after 51 years’ service working as a Plumber at UL Hospitals Group.

Thank you for your many years of service James, enjoy your retirement.

Day Case Activity

Day case activity for the first six months of 2023 & 2024. There has been 1.7% increase in the total amount of day cases across ULHG in 2024 in comparison to the previous year.

 





 



Hand Hygiene Train the Trainer

In June the Infection Prevention and Control Team held a train the trainer day for staff in the Wellness Centre UHL.

This is a national training programme. These newly qualified trainers will now be able to provide training at ward level, within directorates and individual teams.

Another session will be facilitated later in the year.

UL Hospital Group NCHD App 

The NCHD app was developed by the Postgraduate Training Office in partnership with National Doctors Training and Planning and the Health Sciences Academy.  The app is available on the App Store and on Google Play Store or scan the QR code below.

The app is for NCHDs beginning their rotation at UL Hospitals Group and contains an Intern Survival Guide, Event Notifications and Useful phone numbers.





 



Summer Solstice Cycle 

Dr. Terry Hennessey embarked on a cycling journey from Ennis Hospital to Croom Orthopaedic Hospital, then on to UHL, Nenagh Hospital, and back to Ennis on the longest day of the year (21 June).

Along the way, he was joined by colleagues and friends. The event  promoted road safety and health and wellbeing. Dr. Hennessey participated in Healthy Ireland activities at each site.

Congratulations to Dr. Hennessey and all those who helped make this event possible.
