The National Doctor Training and Planning (NDTP) Lead Non – Consultant Hospital Doctors (NCHD) Programme, in partnership with the Irish College of General Practitioners (ICGP), have introduced a programme called “A GP for every NCHD.”
The purpose of this initiative is to make it as easy as possible for all NCHDs to access GP care. Self-care is important for all doctors but self-treatment is not compatible with good self-care. The rotational nature of training for doctors can be a challenge, which is why this initiative was established
This National GP Directory lists, GPs who have indicated that they have capacity to accommodate NCHDs and interns seeking a GP within their locality during their clinical rotations.
With the support of the ICGP and the HSE NDTP NCHD Lead programme the Directory has over 300 GPs registered and is continuing to grow.
This directory will be updated periodically and will assist NCHDs in accessing primary care more easily, particularly for those who move to new locations as part of training.
