Sympathy card launch

The End of Life Care Committee for UL Hospitals Group are pleased to announce the launch of their new sympathy cards. The cards are beautifully designed by Clinical Nurse Manager II, Jacinta Glasgow.

International Clinical Trials day

Celebrating International Clinical Trials Day at UHL. The team at UHL's Cancer Clinical Trials Unit (CCTU) hosted an awareness stand, spreading knowledge and understanding of the vital role clinical trials play in advancing cancer treatment.

 



As a designated Cancer Centre of Excellence, UHL is at the forefront of cutting-edge research, offering hope and innovative treatment options to patients with breast, lung, genitourinary, gastrointestinal, and gynaecological cancers, as well as haematological conditions.

Since its establishment in 2001, the CCTU has been contributing to medical oncology studies that shape the future of cancer care in the Mid West region and beyond.

International Nurses Day 

 



On 12 May we celebrated International Nurses Day across the Group. The Theme was ‘Our Nurses. Our Future. The economic power of care.’ At UHL, an event was organised by nursing staff in CERC, with poetry, dancing, music and much more.

Fire Drills and Evacuation Training UHL

Ignite Fire Safety Training, led by Ricky

O’Flaherty will provide fire drills and evacuation training for all UHL departments in the coming months.

The Emergency Dept has recently benefitted

from this training and the next block to be

offered training will be the Critical Care Block commencing in June 2024.

Drills and evacuation exercises are planned from June to November at which point all departments should be fully trained and running their own regular fire drills.

MN-CMS Project Implementation 

The University Maternity Hospital Limerick and the Ambulatory Gynaecology Unit, Nenagh have been selected to roll out the MN-CMS (Maternal Newborn Clinical Management System)project.

 



All areas involved have been working very hard & the support received at this stage of the project is very much appreciated. The next stage of the project will include the future state review event, device procurement and compiling data collection workbooks.

GAA Injury Unit Campaign

As part of our ongoing work to promote Injury Units, we are working with GAA clubs in Limerick, Clare and Tipperary.

The aim is to increase levels of awareness with these audiences about Injury Units as an option for the treatment of minor injuries.

 



We have developed a poster (opposite) and have distributed them to the GAA Clubs.

We are asking the GAA clubs to display the poster in their clubs and to share it on their What’s App groups and on social media with messaging about Injury Units.

Care Experience visit to Nenagh to promote Inpatient Experience Survey

We were recently joined in Nenagh Hospital by several guests for presentations on improvement initiatives in response to the National Inpatient Experience Survey.



Our guests included: Ms Sandra Broderick (REO), Ms Marie Murray (Dept of Health), Ms Rachel Flynn & Ms Tracy O’Carroll (HIQA), Mr Iolo Eliain (National HSE Patient & Service User Experience team), Ms Georgina Cruise (National Manager PAS), Mr Mervyn Taylor (Head of SAGE Advocacy), and Mr Tom Walsh (Patient Council member).

The survey is currently underway across UHL, Nenagh, Ennis, St. John’s and Croom Orthopaedic Hospitals. Patients aged 16+ who spend 24 hours or more in hospital during the month of May are being invited to give feedback on their experience.


 



2024 Irish Healthcare Awards

Congratulations to all the winners of the 2024 Irish Healthcare Awards.  A special congratulations and well done to the team at the Pain Management Centre, Croom Orthopaedic Hospital for winning under the General Hospital category.



A special mention to the shortlisted teams, including the Dedicated Cataract Clinic Services at Nenagh Ophthalmology, who were shortlisted under Outpatient Initiative of the Year.
